AN INVESTIGATION is under way after a man apparently died at the side of the busy A90 between Perth and Dundee.
Emergency services rushed to the man’s aid after receiving calls from concerned motorists who saw him sitting clutching his chest and then lying beside his car.
It appeared he had stopped close to Tofthill Farm at Glencarse because of a puncture.
Although he was given emergency aid at the roadside, medics could not resuscitate him and he was pronounced dead upon arrival at Perth Royal Infirmary.
No details of the man’s identity will be released until all family have been informed, a police source said last night. It is believed, however, he was not local and was in his 60s.
A statement released by Tayside Police said, “At about 4pm Tayside Police received two phone calls from passers-by concerned for the welfare of a male seen beside a blue MG Rover motor car on the eastbound carriageway of the A90 just before Tofthill Farm.
“The car was off the road on the grass verge and appeared to have a front offside puncture.
“One caller saw the man sitting beside the car clutching his chest and the other saw him lying at the side of the car.”
Police have appealed for witnesses, although they said there appear to be no suspicious circumstances.
As with all sudden deaths, a report has been submitted to the procurator fiscal.
