College joins media academy network

ADAM SMITH College has joined five other Scottish colleges to become part of the Skillset Media Academy Network.

The group is a UK wide collection of institutions that have been identified on behalf of the UK television and interactive industries as centres of excellence in creative media education and training.

“Adam Smith College is delighted to be part of this new network,” said Aileen Lamden, executive director of the college’s Centre for Creative Industries.

“It will enable our students and staff to work with industry in developing a new wave of talent to create the ‘Facebook,’ ‘You Tube’ and ‘Bebo’ style concepts of the future,” she added.

“The institutions in the network are all centres of excellence in television production and interactive media and we welcome this industry recognition for the excellent range of creative and media subjects on offer at Adam Smith.”

Devised by Skillset—the UK Sector Skills Council for Audio Visual Industries— the network comprises 17 academies from 43 UK colleges and universities.

Other Scottish colleges involved include Aberdeen College, Cardonald College, Dundee College, Perth College and Reid Kerr College.
