A KELTY MOTHER who died of hypothermia on Christmas morning will be laid to rest today.
Sharon Morgan (37) was returning from a night out on Christmas Eve when she fell asleep in a close near the Cross at the foot of Main Street.
She was found by police at around 11am on Christmas Day, having been overcome by the freezing conditions.
Mrs Morgan leaves behind a six-year-old son, Declan, and her husband David.
Until recently she worked as a hairdresser at her aunt’s salon, Cut and Style, in Station Road, Oakley.
Through her job she got to know many people in the surrounding villages.
Her father Willie Rowley said the family had been inundated with messages of condolence from the wider community.
He said, “Sharon’s death has come as a great shock to all our family and we have been deeply moved by the many kind messages and support received.
“Sharon was a kind and loving person who cared for others and brightened up the room with her presence. Her loss will leave a huge gap in our lives.”
Her uncle, Kelty councillor Alex Rowley, echoed his father’s sentiments.
He said, “People have been in touch from Kelty and further afield from the west Fife villages. It’s been a great source of comfort for the whole family.
“We’re a really close family and the extended family are all devastated. But we have been overwhelmed by the support from the wider community and it is very much appreciated.”
He added, “If it hadn’t been such a cold night she would have just woken up and gone home. Like any mum she was busy getting ready for Christmas in the days before her death.”
A service will take place at St Joseph’s RC Church in Kelty at 10am today and thereafter at Saline Cemetery at 11.15am.
