A MIDDLE-AGED woman has been subjected to a vicious sexual assault in Fife.

The attack, just outside Thornton, occurred as the local woman was walking at around 2pm on Monday. She was approached by the three men, aged about 25.

Police refused to comment on the extent of her injuries but have issued an urgent appeal for witnesses.

DI Andy Girdwood is particularly keen to speak to a young male dropped off by a silver or white car near the hump bridge on the Kirkcaldy side of the village where the incident occurred around 2.30pm.

No description of the men has been released, but police said one had a bicycle.
