A Fife woman who was found frozen to death on Christmas morning was laid to rest yesterday.
Sharon Morgan, from Kelty, was returning from a night out with friends on Christmas Eve when she fell asleep in a close at the foot of Main Street in the town.
Her body was found the next morning.
Mrs Morgan, who was 37, leaves behind a six-year-old son, Declan, and husband David.
Her funeral took place at St Joseph’s RC Church, just a few hundred yards from where she was found.
Many from the close-knit village turned up to pay their respects on a freezing January morning, and some had to stay outside when the church reached capacity.
After the service, Mrs Morgan was buried at Saline Cemetery.
Mrs Morgan worked until recently as a hairdresser at her aunt’s salon, Cut and Style, in Station Road, Oakley.
She became well known through her work and the family have been inundated with messages of condolence.
Her grandfather Willie Rowley said this week her death had come as a “great shock” to the family.
He said they had been deeply moved by the many kind messages and support they had received.
“Her loss will leave a huge gap in our lives,” he said.
Kelty councillor Alex Rowley echoed his father’s sentiments.
“We’re a really close family and the extended family are all devastated,” he said.
“But we have been overwhelmed by the support from the wider community and it is very much appreciated.”
He added that he believed but for the freezing temperatures on Christmas Eve she would still be alive.
“If it hadn’t been such a cold night she would have just woken up and gone home,” he said.
Police confirmed last week there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding Mrs Morgan’s death.
