Fatal accident driver named

TAYSIDE POLICE yesterday named the man who died after the car he was driving left the A90 Brechin by-pass and slipped around 30 feet down an embankment on Thursday.

The vehicle driven by Henry Lamond (51), of Beechwood Avenue, Ellon, Aberdeenshire, was one of three to leave the northbound carriageway shortly after 11am, about one mile south of Edzell.

First a green Rover 400 left the carriageway, followed by a black and silver Mitsubishi pick-up vehicle.

They were followed down the embankment by the grey BMW 5-series car driven by Mr Lamond.

It is believed the weather conditions played a part in the incident.

Mr Lamond was helped from his car by police and ambulance staff, along with members of the public.

However, his condition rapidly deteriorated and, despite the efforts of the emergency services, he was declared dead at the scene.

No one else was injured as a result of the incident.

Inquiries into the incident are continuing and police appealed to anyone who was in the area at the time to contact them on 01307 302200, as they may have information that is valuable.
