ASDA’S KIRKCALDY store will be trying to persuade children and their families to cut down on plastic bag use this term with their voucher scheme Go Green.
The scheme aims to get youngsters thinking before they throw away, reducing the amount of waste going to landfill.
Green vouchers are given to customers who choose to reuse their old carriers or not use a plastic bag at all, and is not linked to how much a customer spends.
Last year, 10 schools in the area signed up for the 10-week scheme and this year the store is appealing for more schools to join it.
Schools will collect Go Green vouchers and redeem them against equipment ranging from grow beds, pocket microscopes and solar panels to remote- camera bird tables.
Store manager Allan Gibson said, “Customers don’t need to spend thousands of pounds in stores in order to help their local school and the environment.
“All we are asking is that you reuse your bags and use your voucher to help your local school so that they can cash them in for lots of great green prizes.”
