Family’s shock at death of mother

Miss Adamson.

THE FAMILY of a “caring, sharing” Dundee mother-of-four, who died suddenly in her sleep, have spoken of their shock and disbelief.

Rhonda Lyn Adamson (43), of Hawick Drive, who was a language teacher at Braeview Academy in Dundee, was found by her children last Sunday morning.

It is being presumed she died from natural causes, but her family are facing a 10-week wait while doctors attempt to determine the cause of death, saying tests might prove inconclusive even after that time.

Last night, her mother Helen, father Grant and brothers Brian, Stuart and Derek were making final preparations for a funeral today, saying their much-loved relative will be sorely missed.

Helen Adamson called her daughter’s death a “massive shock,” saying, “She was a caring sharing person, generous to a fault.”

Her brother Brian added, “Rhonda was a doer—she got things done. She didn’t get handed a great pack of cards but, whatever she did, she did it well.”

Miss Adamson taught French and German and was said to have a great rapport with her pupils.

Growing up in Dundee, she attended Powrie Primary and Craigie High and graduated with a joint honours degree in French and German from Glasgow University in 1989. She spoke eight languages in total.

Instead of going directly into teaching, Miss Adamson took time off to start a family, and had children Glenn, Lauren, Keith and Greg.

She returned to her love of languages after 10 years, attending teacher training college in Aberdeen through Northern College and graduating at the top of her class.

Miss Adamson had most of her placements in Dundee and began teaching at Braeview Academy after completing her training.

Her family said she was someone who was always on the go and there did not appear to be any signs of health problems.

Brian said, “She was a qualified football referee and a big fan of football. She supported Dundee FC and went to see them play a lot.”

Miss Adamson’s death has also been met with shock and sadness at the school, where she was to return on Monday after the Christmas break.

Just last year she was awarded its special teacher award, voted for by the pupils.

Miss Adamson’s family are asking for donations in lieu of flowers and it is expected proceeds will go to cancer research.

The family invited anyone who knew Miss Adamson and whom they may not have been able to contact to attend Dundee Crematorium today at 4.15pm.
