A NEW exhibition at Methil Heritage Centre, “Levenmouth: Then and Now” takes a nostalgic look at the local area. It features photographs and objects that depict the community over the years and show many familiar places and landmarks.
Some have changed beyond recognition while others appear almost the same. One photograph of the Caledonian Hotel in Leven was taken over 100 years ago and the hotel is still going strong today, having recently undergone a refurbishment.
The images and objects in the exhibition are quite thought-provoking, considering how different lifestyles are now compared to the “olden days.”
For instance, many may think the home delivery service of today’s supermarkets is a new concept, but the exhibition features a photograph showing a Co-op delivery horse-drawn cart taken at a time when it was the norm for shops to take their produce out to their customers.
There are also some old Co-op tokens which worked in a similar way to modern loyalty points schemes—what goes around, comes around indeed!
As well as places and landmarks, shopping and the High Street in general, other areas explored are home and family life, leisure time and transport.
The exhibition runs until April 12 and the centre (admission is free) is open on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 11am until 4.30pm and Saturdays from 1.00-4.30pm. Call 01334 659339 for further information.
