AN ANGUS youngster who made a winning impression on judges in a healthy eating competition tucked into a hearty breakfast in the splendid surroundings of Scotland’s national rugby stadium yesterday.
Susannah Rose, of Whitehills Primary, Forfar, celebrated her poster competition success with a tour of Murrayfield stadium, before sitting down with classmates to breakfast with Scotland and Edinburgh rugby player Phil Godman.
Susannah beat primary pupils across Scotland in the competition organised by the Royal Highland Education Trust and Tesco Scotland to promote Farmhouse Breakfast Week organised by HGCA (Home-Grown Cereals Authority).
Jane Griffin, consultant dietician to HGCA said, “Breakfast is the most important meal of the day.
“A healthy breakfast like porridge or a bacon sandwich provides vital nutrients and helps to ensure that the children get the best start to the day.
“Studies have shown that children who eat breakfast have superior cognitive function and therefore pay more attention and respond more quickly to given tasks.”
Hundreds of events are being held during Farmhouse Breakfast Week to promote the importance of a healthy, balanced breakfast and highlight the quality of breakfast produce.
