CLASSICAL MUSIC fans flocked to the Caird Hall, Dundee, last night for a performance by one of the world’s best young musicians in a concert sponsored by The Courier.
Virtuoso violinist Hilary Hahn (28) played with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra to a packed house of around 1500.
The concert was Ms Hahn’s only British date of a wide-ranging tour.
The show included a performance of Don Juan by Richard Strauss, two pieces by Debussy and Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto.
Stephane Deneve, RSNO music director, said the venue had special resonance for him as his first concert in Scotland was in Dundee.
He added, “The musicians of the RSNO and I are always extremely happy to visit Dundee and its fantastic hall.”
The concert was recorded by BBC Radio 3 and will be broadcast on Monday, February 11.
The Courier’s sponsorship of the event follows our support of the RSNO Out And About in Angus earlier this month.
A review of the performance, by Courier music critic Garry Fraser, will appear tomorrow.
