GIVING UP a few hours a week to help others can transform your life, according to the Volunteer Centre Fife.
The Dunfermline-based organisation is urging members of the public to kick-start their year by getting in touch.
Cerys Thomas from the centre said, “At this time of year many people re-assess their lives and think about making changes.
“Whether that’s taking up a new activity, getting fit, expanding their social network or starting a new career, volunteering can play a large part in helping you make that change.
“Whatever your interests there are many volunteer opportunities in west Fife, including befriending, driving, working with children and young people, adult education, working with older people, gardening, fund-raising, sport and advice.
“Volunteering is a great way to meet new people, be active, get fit, increase your confidence and have fun at the same time.
“If you are looking for employment or are hoping to change your career volunteering is a great way of gaining experience and enhancing your CV as well as accessing training and an up-do-date reference.”
One of the centre’s volunteers, Steven, turned to volunteering after suffering a severe head injury.
Steven said, “I had few friends left in the area, I didn’t work so that social network didn’t exist and I live separately from my wife and children. I’ve found volunteering is a good way to meet other people and feel part of society.
“The benefits I get are feeling useful and good.”
