PROVOST JOHN Hulbert opened the fifth annual Perth and Kinross Chess Festival at the Quality Hotel on Saturday.

Dr Hulbert said, “In 2010 Perth will be celebrating its 800th anniversary—and we intend to do it in big style.

“I cannot think of a better way to start the year than to have an international chess festival.”
