Leishman thrilled with honour

DUNFERMLINE’S director of football Jim Leishman has just received word of his latest honour and says he is thrilled to bits.

Leish’, who received the MBE from The Queen last year, was told earlier this week Fife Council plans to name a street after him.

The move was approved by councillors at a meeting of the local authority’s City of Dunfermline area committee.

They agreed that Wardlaw Crescent in the Brucefield area of Dunfermline should be renamed Leishman Drive.

It forms part of the area being redeveloped by Fife Housing Association.

The man himself told The Courier yesterday he was deeply touched by the honour.

“It was really nice of them to consider us,” he said.

“I’m really pleased...I just hope the residents are as pleased as I am!”

The idea was first suggested last year, but Leishman revealed it was not until this week that he was told the renaming would be going ahead.

“The recommendation was accepted on Monday,” he said, adding that if asked he would be delighted to unveil the sign.

“Nobody has been in touch with me about that yet, but it would be a pleasure to do that.”

He joins some pretty illustrious company.

Streets have been named after the likes of the late Labour leader John Smith (in Kelty) and Dunfermline athlete Lindsay Macdonald (in Dunfermline).
