THE CREATION of artwork at Anstruther harbour has taken another step forward.
A shortlist has been drawn up of three artists and designers bidding to undertake the £25,000 lottery-funded project.
The successful candidate is to be announced next month following interviews.
Out of 33 submissions received by Anstruther Town Centre Working Group, those by Robert Callender, Keiko Mukadie and Marion Smith—all of whom have a proven interest in the town—were selected.
Views of local people on what the artwork should be were collected by members of the East Neuk Youth Club and a DVD was then produced.
It was issued with a design brief nationwide.
A spokesman for the working group said, “All the artists placed great importance on the DVD that was produced by young people in the town in 2007.
“This explored and reflected the views of the community in one-to-one interviews and at a public meeting and illustrated the vibrancy within the town, the sense of history it holds and the desire to ensure that a forward view is established and developed.”
The chosen artist’s design proposals will go on public display in May before they are finalised for production and installation.
It is hoped the artwork at the east harbour will be in place by December.
