Centenarian presents golf trophy

GRAND OLD lady Gertie Paton has celebrated her 100th birthday by presenting a trophy to Scotscraig Golf Club, Tayport, to be competed for by other lady members.

Herself a member of the club for almost 75 years— she joined on April 1, 1933 —Mrs Paton handed over the silverware to captain Mrs Elizabeth Hill at the clubhouse yesterday.

She donated the Craigview Rosebowl to the ladies’ section in 1979 and it is still played for today.

Mrs Paton, whose birthday was on Sunday, has been a very active member over the years and still played until a few years ago.

Even after giving up playing, she still continued to practise her putting for some time.

Ladies’ captain from 1966-68, she was a member of the committee for many years and still takes an active interest in the club, visiting regularly.
