AROUND 30 Dundee music lovers queuing up to secure tickets for T in the Park were in high spirits last night as they prepared for their first full night in the cold.
The first three revellers set up camp outside Groucho’s Record Store on Perth Road at 5am yesterday, equipped with the bare essentials to keep them going for their 52-hour stint, including sweeties, fleeces, deckchairs and sleeping bags.
The school friends from Lawside Academy are set to brave the weather ailments of Dundee again today and tonight before tickets go on sale at the shop from 9am tomorrow.
Sisters Beth and Lauren Keen go every year to the Balado music festival and this year they decided to queue early to ensure they got the much sought after tickets.
“For the past two years my sister and I have queued for tickets—normally from the Friday evening but this year we heard that people would be queuing earlier because demand for the tickets is going up every year,” said Beth.
“We are off school today and tomorrow so it has meant we have got right to the front of the queue.
“It has been really fun so far, we did this last year too and during the day all of our friends have come along, too.
“There’s been a really good atmosphere and it’s not been too cold yet—we have our sleeping bags to keep us warm.”
Groucho’s assistant manager Andy McLaren said, “The girls were camped out when we came in this morning which is brilliant because it shows people are interested in the music scene.
“Queuing 52 hours before the tickets go on sale here on Saturday is probably the earliest we have ever seen the queue forming!”
As word spread through the day more and more eager festival fans lined up, ready to face the freezing temperatures to ensure they got tickets for the event.
Music fans of all ages were camping out overnight to enjoy the party-like atmosphere, including mother and son Dawn and Ryan Lawrence, who insisted the long wait was definitely worth it.
Dawn (36) said, “We were here last year too and we were right down the queue—we only just got tickets and this year we really wanted to make sure we would both get to go.”
With the temperatures forecast overnight to reach –3C, the eager festival goers were in for a cold night.
