Recovering after accident

A MAN was recovering at home last night after he was involved in a minor industrial accident in Forfar.

The 53-year-old, who has not been named, suffered a hip injury after being struck by a steel beam at Forfar Galvanisers in Carseview Road at around 8.30am.

Ambulance personnel treated him at the scene before taking him to Ninewells Hospital.

Police were also called to the firm and said the Health and Safety Executive had been informed.

Company director Tony Walker said the accident happened when the beam dislodged from a stand in an area where completed work is handled.

“I was with the employee as he left in the ambulance,” he said. “He was in pain at the time but in good spirits and cracking jokes.

“He was taken to Nine- wells where he was X-rayed and released with what we believe was bruising.

“We were delighted when we heard he was out of hospital—that was the key thing for me.

“I would like to thank the ambulance team and the first-aiders here who tended him immediately after the accident,” Mr Walker said.

The director said safety was a priority at the factory, which had undergone a full external health and safety audit prior to Christmas.

“As well as informing the Health and Safety Executive we have started a full investigation of this accident ourselves.”
