VALUABLE JEWELLERY left behind at a St Andrews hotel has been reunited with its elderly owner following a prolonged police inquiry.
The woman had left the pieces at the Rufflets Hotels last October and staff, unable to establish the identity of the owner, handed them in to police.
Police realised the jewellery was worth a substantial sum of money and wrote to all guests who had stayed at the hotel during a specific period.
The woman was said to be extremely grateful for the return of her property.
Another piece of high value jewellery found in the town and handed in to police has also been returned to its owner.
A woman from Dublin lost it when she was on holiday.
In both cases the finders were rewarded.
