SEVEN YOUTHS were arrested following an alleged nine-hour stand-off at a residential school in Dundee yesterday.
The drama began at Parkview School in Blackness Road at around 3am and was only resolved in the afternoon following the intervention of police.
Parkview School is an independent school managed by a limited company which provides secondary education and residential care for boys experiencing significant social, emotional and behavioural difficulties.
Residential care is provided in two wings of the school building.
There are normally 24 young people in Parkview, their ages ranging from 12 to 15.
Dozens of police officers attended the school yesterday and fire and ambulance crews were also at the scene.
The youths allegedly barricaded themselves into an accommodation area within the imposing West End building.
Chief Inspector Dave Tonks said at the scene, “A number of students were being unco-operative with staff and as a result we have had a presence here since the early hours.
“Shortly after 12.30pm we managed to persuade the students to co-operate with the instructions of staff.
“As a result of the alleged disturbance and breach of the peace, seven juveniles have been arrested and the matter will be reported to the Children’s Reporter.”
It is understood that there was some minor damage to an accommodation area within the school and that none of the youngsters involved are from the Dundee area.
