Small figure nets big sum

A RARE figurine of Oor Wullie fetched more than double the predicted price when it went to auction in Dundee yesterday.

A man thought to be from the Inverurie area paid £840 when the figurine went under the hammer at auctioneers Curr and Dewar.

The miniature version of a’body’s wee pal was expected to fetch around £300 when it was sold on behalf of a family in Forfar.

It is believed the plaster of Paris statuette, which stands 20cm (8in) high, dates from the 1950s and is one of only nine in existence.

Clare Dewar, of the auctioneers, said, “We are all delighted the figurine went for such a high amount, as one in better condition was sold by Bonhams in Edinburgh in 2004 for £470. This one was flaky in places and the spiky hair was a bit chipped but the sale was a good result all round.”
