SECOND YEAR PUPILS at Arbroath High were given an insight of what it is like to trade as a third world country at a Fair Trade event at the school yesterday.

Pupils were split into teams, representing different countries, and took part in a challenge creating a variety of shapes out of paper.

However not all of the teams had the same amount of resources, with each having different amounts of paper and some not having essential equipment, such as rulers and scissors.

The teams then had to trade with one another to try to complete the task.

It was found that wealthy countries such as the US and UK had been able to succeed much better.

A school spokesperson said, “I think the children really enjoyed the activity.

“It demonstrated that trade between rich and poor countries is unfair.”
