ALDI to build store in Leven

INTERNATIONAL grocery chain ALDI has been granted permission to open a £2 million store in Leven.

The company completed a deal to buy land at Windygates Road in December 2006 and submitted initial proposals to Fife Council in March last year.

Those plans have now been approved and construction on the supermarket with associated parking spaces for ALDI customers is expected to take place in the near future.

David Grant, property director for ALDI in Scotland said, “We are very pleased with the planning outcome and look forward very much to bringing the ALDI retail offering to Leven.

“ALDI will bring a number of benefits to the local community, including more choice for consumers and job opportunities in retail and construction.

“Customers in Leven will be able to look forward to experiencing ALDI’s carefully selected and award winning product range including food, flowers, wines, bakery and homeware essentials.”

Although predominantly a foodstore, ALDI also sells a range of clothing, footwear, electrical goods, bicycles and beauty products at discounted prices.

The new store will add to ALDI’s growing presence in Fife.

There are already three stores open in Dunfermline, Glenrothes and Kirkcaldy and two more in the pipeline.

It is anticipated the new store will be open by the end of this year.
