A 73-year-old Dundee man remained in a serious condition in Ninewells Hospital last night after being struck by a double-decker bus in the city centre on Saturday evening.
The unnamed pensioner had been crossing the carriageway of the Seagate near to its junction with St Andrew’s Street just before 6pm when he was involved in an accident with the number 73A Strathtay bus, which was on its way to Arbroath.
Passers-by quickly contacted the emergency services, which arrived shortly afterwards.
The man received medical treatment at the scene and was taken to hospital by ambulance suffering from serious head injuries.
The Seagate area near the bus station was closed and traffic diverted while a team of accident investigators carried out checks.
It is understood that no passengers were injured during the incident and, after giving statements to the police, they were able to board the next available bus and use their old tickets.
A Tayside Police spokesman said they received a call at 5.50pm to tell them a male pedestrian had been struck by a bus while crossing the Seagate.
“The elderly male pedestrian was subsequently transferred by ambulance to Ninewells Hospital suffering from head injuries,” he said. “He is described as being in a serious condition.”
Anyone who may have witnessed the incident should contact police on 223200 or speak to any police officer.
