Anniversary for art club

DUNFERMLINE Art Club members celebrate its 125th anniversary this weekend by taking up their brushes.

The club is holding an open day on Saturday at its premises in Townhill Community Centre from 10am to 4pm.

Members will recreate a painting of a gala day that was originally painted by the late Ken Spowart, a valued member of the club in its early years.

The painting was given to the club but was later handed on to Dunfermline Museum.

The original will be on show on as it is copied Saturday.

The club was formed in 1883 by local gentlemen.

Its first exhibition was opened by its honorary president Lord Elgin that December.

For its launch Carnegie swimming pool was turned into a temporary gallery. Some 800 exhibits were on show—including works of a number of well-known artists along with paintings by 30 local artists.
