ARMED POLICE stormed a Dundee tenement yesterday, blocking off a busy street in Charleston for almost an hour.
Police officers with bullet- proof vests and riot shields swarmed Buttars Road to investigate a firearms incident at around 4.30pm. Residents were confined to their homes while vehicles and pedestrians were barred from entering the street.
Alexander Munro witnessed the event from his home on Buttars Road. He said, “Police blocked all the street and they said it was too dangerous for us to come out of our homes.
“There were loads of police officers at each side of the street and over at the tenements. They had riot shields and bullet-proof vests. They weren’t letting anyone come into the street.
“I heard something about a gun being involved but I’m not sure what kind of gun it was.”
The street was closed from 4.30pm, reopened at 4.45pm, closed again half an hour later and finally reopened at 5.30pm.
It is believed a flat inside the block was targeted. Police say no one was arrested but follow-up inquiries were being made.
Local residents say the tenements are a source of regular trouble in the community.
