A Fife-born priest died suddenly after attending Celtic’s Champions League match in Barcelona.
Monsignor David Gemmell (54), who was brought up in Oakley, was administrator of St Mary’s Cathedral in Edinburgh.
He was in Barcelona with a colleague, Father Hugh Purcell.
A spokesman for the church said, “After a meal yesterday evening with Father Purcell, Mgr Gemmell said he felt unwell, but did not need medical help.
“Today when he did not appear for breakfast, Father Purcell contacted the hotel authorities and Mgr Gemmell was found dead in his room.
“Mgr Gemmell did have a history of heart trouble. There are no further details at this time.”
