Read all about it... world record bid

PUPILS AT Forfar Academy took part in an attempt to smash the world record for the number of people reading a verse simultaneously yesterday.

Around 70 pupils at the school read aloud the verse To The Top from Peter Pan In Scarlet.

Across the country thousands also read the verse at exactly 9.15am.

Money raised through donations will go to the Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity.

Librarian Hilary Duncan said the school was keen to be involved in the attempt since J. M. Barrie, who wrote the original Peter Pan, was a former pupil of the school.

She said, “We have been raising money throughout the week for Great Ormond Street through quizzes, a wordsearch and treasure hunt all organised by the children themselves. The kids enjoyed reading the verse and were able to get through it at the same time.

“Our principal teacher of English, Gail McGuinness, lip read the verse to keep the pupils in time.

“Superintendent Fiona Clacher from Tayside Police acted as our independent witness for the purpose of the attempt.

“It was very exciting to think that the school could be part of a world record breaking attempt.”
