A MAN has been charged after two 12-year-old girls were taken to hospital under the influence of alcohol.
The 19-year-old man, who allegedly supplied the youngsters with alcohol in Rosyth, was caught in the crackdown on under-age drinking.
Fife Police have been conducting checks on licensed premises to see if alcohol is being sold to children.
The force is increasingly targeting those who buy drinks for under-18s, which is an offence by both the purchaser and the licensee.
The man is the second adult to be charged in the Dalgety Bay area this year, and Sergeant Lindsay Black warned the crackdown would continue.
“It is very concerning that children as young as 12 are involved in such activities,” he said.
“We will act on information received in an effort to trace these adults who supply younger children with alcohol and hit them where it hurts—in their pockets.
“As well as enforcement, which we do on a daily basis by seizing and destroying alcohol found in the possession of youngsters, we need to continue to educate youngsters to the dangers of drink and drugs.”
The community team at Dalgety Bay police station is raising awareness of the dangers of under-age drinking during secondary school parents’ evenings.
