Community spirit on parade at busy horse fair

John Shanks (5) and his dad Kenny, from Abernyte, with their Clydesdale, Bob.

THE COUPAR Angus community spirit spilled over into the streets on Saturday as the town celebrated its annual horse fair.

It is the third time the fair has been run, celebrating the town’s past as a vital trading point and its regeneration, which continues apace.

The highlight was the parade led by heavy horses.

It also had vintage vehicles, children’s groups and the Coupar Angus Pipe Band.

The fair also featured a community market, crafts and competitions for children and a family ceilidh.

Among those lining the streets was North Tayside MSP John Swinney.

He said, “Coupar Angus has a rich history founded in the agricultural community.

“It has been a very imaginative initiative to re-establish the horse fair and to create such a powerful link to the roots of the town.

“This was an excellent event that was well- supported by the local community.”
