Runners and walkers from across the area are expected to boost the BBC’s Sport Relief campaign by around £2000 after Monifieth’s Sport Relief mile yesterday.
One mile wasn’t enough for some, however, with many being cajoled into taking on two or three laps of the course—or even more— by the watching crowd.
Angus MSP Andrew Welsh set more than 200 runners going at Monifieth High School—but didn’t bring his own trainers, choosing instead to stay suited and booted for a lunchtime public meeting.
There was also a raffle, “beat the goalie” and stalls.
Monifieth Active Schools co-ordinator Stephen Gammack said, “We’re really pleased with the turnout. It’s great to see so many along getting out and getting some exercise in the community.
“We’ve had a great response, especially from the local schools, and will raise a lot of money for Sport Relief, which is what its all about.”
The figure raised to help disadvantaged people all over the world by the nationwide televised campaign stood at around £20m and counting last night.
