Helicopter tests life-saving skills

The Royal Navy helicopter winches a crew member on to the Broughty Ferry lifeboat.

Members of the Broughty Ferry lifeboat crew were practising their life-saving skills with the help of a Royal Navy helicopter from HMS Gannet last night.

Throughout the training course near the lifeboat shed area of the river 11 members of the crew were given the opportunity to practise how to transport casualties and crew on to the helicopter.

The lifeboat’s coxswain Murray Brown said, “We have to be prepared for every eventuality, and the training allowed us to experience dealing with helicopters because it can be very noisy.

“It is good for us to learn the safety aspect and drill of helicopter rescues,” he added.

The training involved the process of lifting crew from the inshore lifeboat and then lifting from the all-weather lifeboat.
