New riding centre impresses

CONTRIBUTORS WHO helped fund a £500,000 state-of-the-art riding school in Dundee saw the results of their generosity last night at an open night at the new centre.

The Brae RDA Partnership is due to be officially opened next month and is designed to bring the enjoyment, challenge and therapeutic benefits of horse riding to the disabled.

The riding school is the first of its kind in the Dundee area as it has both indoor and outdoor facilities, schooled horses, specially trained instructors and physiotherapists for people of all ages with learning or physical disabilities as well as those in rehabilitation from trauma, strokes and amputations.

Around 170 people attended last night’s open event at the centre just north of Linlathen nursing home, off Arbroath Road.

Centre manager Mary Sneddon said the evening had been very successful.

“It went fantastically. I think people were genuinely impressed and wowed at how everything has turned out.

“As they were leaving, they were saying just how good the centre looks.”

The riding school has six horses but Mary said they were desperate to find people willing to donate suitable ponies or horses for use at the centre.
