Belly dancing charity event

A GROUP of Egyptian belly dancers in Glamis are inviting people of all ages to join them at a special fund-raising evening.

A belly dancing taster evening will take place on Thursday from 7pm until 9pm in the Masonic Hall in Glamis.

The evening will raise funds for the Wisecraft project—part of the Perth and Kinross Association of Voluntary Service (PKAVS)—which provides support for adults recovering from severe mental ill health.

Christine Fretwell, art support worker at Wisecraft and member of the dancing group, explained, “The taster session is an opportunity for people of all ages, shapes and sizes, to try their hand at belly dancing.

“It’s purely for fun and is specifically for beginners.

“The group meet once a week in Glamis but this particular Thursday we are holding a special evening to raise funds for Wisecraft in Blairgowrie.”

Wisecraft supports adults living in the Strathmore area.

The project provides training and work experience opportunities in various arts and craft forms to nearly 25 adults every week, helping them to get back into a working routine and learn new skills in a supportive environment.

Since its establishment in 2002 Wisecraft has been a stepping stone to recovery for over 70 adults, many of whom move onto further training or voluntary work.

Wisecraft’s Gifts Gallery in Lower Mill Street, Blairgowrie, is open to the public and sells unique hand-crafted items made by the workers.
