Big-hearted bikers on Easter egg sortie

IT WAS as if the Hells Angels had descended on Dundee on Saturday as more than 100 motorbikes roared through city streets.

But these big-hearted bikers were playing the part of Easter bunnies on their annual Easter Egg Run.

United through Dundee Bikers Forum, motorcycle lovers from all over Dundee, Angus and Fife were delivering eggs and raising money for children at the Glenlaw House respite unit and Dundee Women’s Aid.

One biker said, “We want everyone to know that beneath all that black leather, we’ve got hearts of gold.”

They met at Scotriders bike training school on East Dock Street, before heading up Greendykes Road, along Arbroath Road, through Lochee and finished up at Camperdown Park, raising around £600 from the event.

Yolanda Archibald, of Dundee Women’s Aid, was at the egg run with some of the children they help.

She said, “Despite the cold weather around 12 children wanted to come out.

“The bikers are just brilliant with the children, they let them sit on their bikes and they’re really friendly. These children have been through huge trauma and to come out and mix and socialise with the bikers is brilliant for them.”

Some children collected their eggs at Camperdown House but due to bad weather the bikers extended their expedition and personally delivered the rest of the eggs to Glenlaw House at Kings Cross Hospital.

One unit user said, “It really is fantastic that they do this. The kids love listening to and seeing the bikes.”
