THE MOTHER of a teenage boy whose ankle was broken after being hit by a car on Saturday night has spoken of her disappointment that the driver did not stop at the scene.
David Tough (15), of Whitfield, Dundee, was crossing Douglas Road with four friends when a car travelling northbound struck him.
After being taken to Ninewells Hospital by ambulance just after 6pm, David was allowed home after getting a cast fitted.
“He is doing fine now and I’m just so relieved it was only his ankle that was injured but I am disappointed the driver never stopped,” his mother said last night.
“David had just met his friends at Asda and he was on his way to get the bus into town to see The Enemy concert at the Caird Hall when the front of the car clipped him on the leg.”
David was able to grab a lamppost, which stopped him falling.
David said, “When the car hit me it slowed down but then carried on driving. I was in shock at the time and it was only when I was in the ambulance that I could feel the pain getting worse.”
His mother continued, “I’m hoping the driver will come forward because there’s nothing to say they have done anything wrong.
“When David was hit he was knocked to the side of the road so it’s possible that if the driver looked in the rear mirror they might not have seen him.
“I would hope that the driver’s conscience would have made them stop if they knew they had hit someone but they maybe never realised what had happened.”
She was relieved that David, who is in third year at Craigie High School, is home and should make a full recovery.
“The ambulance crew and hospital staff were really good with him. He has to go back to the hospital in 10 days but I’m happy he is on the mend and there shouldn’t be any lasting damage.”
Police are reviewing CCTV footage of the incident.
Anyone who saw it take place, or knows the driver or the white hatchback car is asked to call police on 01382 223200, or speak to any officer.
