IT’S TESTIMONY to their immense popularity that young guns The Enemy were able to sell out the Caird Hall in Dundee for Saturday’s gig.
With only one album— albeit a number one disc—under their youthful belts, it was probably no surprise they couldn’t stretch their set out to an hour but it still felt too short for a gig of that size in front of 2200 fans screaming for more.
The Coventry trio had whetted their appetites with an in-store appearance at Zavvi in the Wellgate Centre on Friday night and Saturday’s crowd were up for it from the start, singing along to favourites like We’ll Live And Die In These Towns, Had Enough, Away From Here, 40 Days and 40 Nights and current single This Song.
During that number they put the house lights up and frontman Tom Clarke let the crowd sing the chorus, saluting the horde as the best of their UK tour so far—particularly having discovered there was no alcohol allowed in the hall—before the band closed their 50-minute set with You’re Not Alone.
Having shot to number one with the debut album last year, The Enemy had further reward when they won Best New Act at the Q Awards and Best New Band at this year’s NME Awards.
Their tour included a date in Edinburgh last night and two shows in Glasgow tonight and tomorrow.
