A MAN has been arrested in the wake of an early morning police chase which ended in an accident on an Angus dual carriageway yesterday.

A Tayside Police patrol car sustained minor nearside frontal damage in what has been described as a “forced stop” on the A90 near Forfar after a half-hour pursuit from Dundee.

The other vehicle involved in the incident, a Vauxhall Omega saloon, came to a halt after striking the northbound central reservation of the Forfar by-pass, close to the A926 Kirriemuir junction, at around 7.30am

Police said the Vauxhall had been followed from Dundee following what was termed a suspicious incident in the city at around 7am.

“The vehicle was brought to a forced stop and in the process collided with the dual carriageway’s central reservation barrier,” said a police spokesman.

“The driver, a 38-year-old man from the Ayr area, has been arrested in relation to various road traffic offences and other matters.

“A 34-year-old male who was a passenger in the vehicle was detained at the scene and is assisting the police with their inquiries.

“No one was injured as a result of the incident and the vehicle has been seized for further examination.

“The nearside lane of the A90 northbound between the Forestmuir flyover and the Quilkoe junction was closed for a short time following the incident and further inquiries are continuing at the scene,” the spokesman added.

“Tayside Police are not looking for anyone else in connection with this incident.

“A report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal at Forfar.”

The spokesman added that anyone who witnessed the incident was asked to contact police on Forfar (01307) 302200.
