DUNDEE REP ensemble actor Keith Fleming has expressed his personal thanks to those who helped raise over £17,000 for skin cancer research through a concert held at the theatre in his fiance’s memory, writes Alan Wilson, Rocktalk reporter.
Hey Jude, a celebration of the life of Jude Malecki who died from melanoma two years ago at the age of 29, brought together musicians, actors and friends to perform a selection of her favourite songs.
Those who took part included The Hazey Janes, Kit Clark and Loadsa-weeminsingin.
The emotional event was a huge success and raised around £15,000 on the night, helped by donations from dozens of groups and individuals, including The Proclaimers who donated a signed guitar to the fund-raising effort, bringing in over £1000.
It was Jude’s wish that an event of this kind be organised to raise money for research into the rare type of cancer she had, so that others may get a chance denied to her.
Last night Keith contacted The Courier to say thanks to everyone who helped him raise the money.
“We raised over £17,000,” he said.
“The money just kept coming in after the concert, so it’s been a tremendous effort.
“I would really like to thank everybody who was involved.
“Words really can’t express how grateful I am for the fantastic enthusiasm everybody showed for the concert and the fund-raising, and the generosity of everybody who contributed to the fund.”
Cancer Research UK and The Shaw Melanoma Charitable Trust were the two charities to benefit from the fund-raising effort.
