Back to normal after dental hospital closes

HEALTH OFFICIALS are expecting business as usual on Monday after the sudden closure of Dundee Dental Hospital yesterday.

A breakdown of vital sterilising equipment prompted the closure, but the problems were resolved late yesterday.

NHS Tayside said that a breakdown in the sterilising process meant it was unsafe to continue with hundreds of routine appointments scheduled for the day. The sterile services division at Ninewells Hospital was not suitable as an alternative as it was unable to process the tiny drill bits used in dentistry.

Patients requiring emergency treatment were transferred to alternative dental services
