Dialled 999 to be let into flat

POLICE OFFICERS yesterday told Dundee Sheriff Court of being called to an incident where a man kept calling the 999 emergency line because he could not get into his multi-storey flat.

He had verbally abused the control room operators and the police who arrived outside Adamsons Court, the officers said.

Robbie Herd (24) denied that on June 5 last year, at the flats, he conducted himself in a disorderly manner, shouted, swore and breached the peace.

He further denied assaulting PC Oona King in the execution of her duty by elbowing her in the face; and resisted arrest by her and PC Darren Bannister.

Police officers said they found Herd outside around 3.30am and were going to try and get him into his home but he was aggressive, shouting and swearing.

PC King said they tried to handcuff Herd but he got an arm free and elbowed her in the face, leaving her with a swollen mouth.

Herd said he had been out at a pub and a nightclub. There was no concierge on and the buzzer up to his flat did not work.

He dialled 999 because he had no credit on his phone. He denied phoning at least five times but agreed he phoned more than once.

Sheriff Elizabeth Munro found Herd guilty of all charges and deferred sentence until April 25.
