Two are charged after Dundee toddler death

DETECTIVES INVESTIGATING the death of a toddler in Dundee have made two arrests.

Officers confirmed last night that the pair, a man and a woman both aged 22, had been charged in relation to the alleged neglect of a 23-month-old boy.

It follows almost two weeks of intensive inquiries into the early-hours death of toddler Brandon Muir.

A statement issued last night said, “Tayside Police can confirm that a 22-year-old male and a 22-year-old female were arrested and charged today in relation to the alleged neglect of a 23-month-old male child in Dundee.

“Inquiries are continuing and no further information is available at this time.

“A report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal.”

Brandon, who would have been two next month, was rushed to Ninewells Hospital from his home in Balunie Crescent.

However, despite the efforts of paramedics and doctors, he was pronounced dead a short time later.

Following the child’s death, Tayside Police immediately launched an investigation, and it was stepped up last week with the focus on two addresses in the Douglas street.

A neighbour said last night, “Everybody is just kind of keeping to themselves at the moment.

“There has been a continued police presence and it looks like they’ve been using a lot of manpower on this.”

Uniformed officers remained posted last night inside and outside the block in Balunie Crescent where Brandon lived.

A mobile police unit is also stationed outside the second block, where it is understood forensic inquiries have been continuing throughout this week.

The police investigation, led by CID head Detective Chief Inspector Ewen West, has also included door-to-door inquiries, while officers have been liaising with the wider family.
