Thieves strike at Caithness Glass

JUST WEEKS after celebrating the start of a new chapter in its history, Caithness Glass has been struck a blow by thieves.

The world-famous brand moved from its Perth base earlier this year, making a new home at the Crieff Visitor Centre.

At the official opening a bright future was predicted and staff said they were delighted with the new factory and shop facilities.

However, one of their first duties has been to call Tayside Police.

More than £5000 worth of goods walked out of the door at the new premises last Thursday afternoon after thieves struck.

They made off with a variety of small, high-value items including 20 gold and gemstone rings.

The shop in the town’s Muthill Road was targeted some time between 12.40pm and 3.10pm.

Tayside Police are already following leads that they hope will lead to the apprehension of the perpetrators.

In particular, officers are keen to trace two men seen acting suspiciously at the premises shortly before the theft.

The first is described as 50-60, six-foot in height and of medium build, with short grey hair.

He was wearing a grey flat cap and a dark jumper, with a light shirt underneath.

The other man is described as 40-50, with short grey hair.

He was dressed in a beige horizontal striped jumper, blue jacket and blue and beige striped scarf and was wearing sunglasses on the top of his head.

Anyone with information that could assist officers with their investigation, or who has been offered jewellery for sale, is asked to call police in Perth on 01738 621141.
