JUST BEFORE 3pm on Saturday, police at Fort William were alerted by a climber on Ben Nevis who heard cries for help coming from the area of Zero Gully, Ben Nevis.

Lochaber Mountain Rescue Team was advised and 11 team members attended.

The Stornoway Coastguard helicopter was also called in, as RAF and Navy helicopters were involved in a search for an aircraft missing over the Cairngorms.

Two men were successfully located and airlifted off the mountain.

The helicopter then flew back up the mountain to collect the team members.
