Peace march

Over 200 people, including Lord Provost John Letford, took part in a peace march in Dundee yesterday.

It was the eighth annual march to have been organised by the Scottish Islamic Cultural Centre on Dura Street.

The marchers left Dura Street and walked down to the City Square, where messages of peace were read out on the steps of the Caird Hall.

Trustee of the cultural centre Mahmud Sarwar Rathore said, “We want to show that there are positive things taking place in the local Muslim community.

“The solutions to misunderstanding between Muslims and our local communities are in our own hands.

“We want to make people think, encourage people to come out in solidarity with us, and show that there are many positive aspects in the Muslim community.”

The march is part of the centre’s celebrations to mark the birthday of the prophet Mohammed.
