Ambassador thanks people of Angus

THE AMBASSADOR of Lithuania in London last night thanked the people of Angus who have offered “significant moral and financial support” to Jolanta’s family.

Speaking of the tragic death of a Lithuanian citizen in Scotland, Mr Vygaudas Usackas said, “We are all deeply shocked by the nature of the (death),” he said.

“The people of Lithuania and the UK are joined in their condemnation of this violence and our thoughts and prayers are with the family of the victim.

“The Lithuanian community in the UK has been deeply saddened by this horrible crime.

“Lithuanians live peacefully throughout the UK, working and studying hard and making a significant contribution to the society in this country.”

On behalf of the Lithuanian community the ambassador paid tribute to and offered thanks for the kindness and co-operation shown by the local authorities and community groups to the family of the deceased woman.

Mr Usackas added, “The Lithuanian embassy continues to work closely with the relevant UK authorities and we extend our full support to the Scottish investigating authorities.

“This is an isolated case.”

“I hope that those responsible for this crime will be brought to justice swiftly,” he said.
