Prancing horse on course for Fife

THE QUIET countryside around Knockhill will see some prancing horses of a different kind this weekend when some of the world’s most exotic sports cars arrive.

It has been three years since the Avon Tyres British GT Championship has visited the Fife circuit and track owner Derek Butcher and his team are extremely excited at the prospect of welcoming back this prestigious gridful of racing cars, including the famous prancing horse of Ferrari.

Fittingly, after the opening round of the championship at Oulton Park, it’s a Scottish-owned team who will arrive in Scotland leading the pursuing pack.

CR Scuderia Racing is run by team director Andrew Kirkaldy from St Andrews, who is himself the 2005 GT champion.

The flying Fifer is running a team of three racing red Ferrari 430 Modenas, but his team isn’t taking anything for granted at Andrew’s home track.

“Although it’s nice for CR Scuderia to be leading when we come north, I am very aware of just how good the opposition is, and also of the surprises which Knockhill can spring on the unsuspecting,” he said.

Lamborghinis, Porsches and Chevrolet Corvettes will also compete.

Two hour-long races will take place, with driver changes adding drama. The first race will be on Saturday, the second on Sunday.

Action on track will be from 9am on Saturday and 10am on Sunday.
