THE FAMILY of missing woman Linda Hill may know today if a body recovered from the sea in East Lothian is that of the Monifieth grandmother.
Police said last night a formal identification of the body—discovered on a beach at Dunbar on Saturday—was expected in the “next couple of days.”
Linda’s daughter Claire and husband Kenny are being kept “fully aware” of developments surrounding the case and are in constant contact with the Tayside force—an indication police believe the body is that of the missing woman.
Yesterday morning the police said the process of formal identification was likely to take time due to the possibility of forensic testing.
A spokesman said, “Tayside Police are assisting Lothian and Borders Police with a view to identifying the body in Dunbar on Saturday.
“Because of the condition of the body it may have to be identified by forensic means and formal identification could take a number of days.”
The news brings greater pain for Linda’s family, who have endured two weeks of uncertainty since the “out-of-character” disappearance of the 41-year-old.
Mrs Hill was last seen at around 6.45am on April 6 after a night out with her husband in Broughty Ferry and Monifieth.
The night was initially described as a normal one, but this version of events was complicated when it emerged Mrs Hill was arrested hours before her disappearance.
A massive hunt was launched, and a person came forward to say he had seen someone in the water at the beachfront that morning.
A Lothian and Borders police spokes-man said, “A positive line of inquiry has been established and a report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal.”
