PERSONNEL FROM 56 Squadron at RAF Leuchars yesterday marked the final day of the unit’s life as a fighter squadron with a special parade at the base.
The hour-long event was accompanied by a flypast of Tornado F3s and an AWAC, and the reviewing officer was Air Chief Marshal Sir Michael Graydon, a former station commander at RAF Leuchars.
The new 56 Squadron will be based at RAF Waddington in Lincolnshire and will undertake a new role of electronic intelligence gathering (ELINT) with Sentinel aircraft.
