ST ANDREWS UNIVERSITY is the best in Scotland according to a league table of educational institutions.

In the Good University Guide St Andrews scored the highest north of the border coming in seventh place, ahead of Glasgow (16th) and Edinburgh (21st).

The online independent league table, topped by Oxford University, rates universities on various criteria including student satisfaction.

In listings for subject areas St Andrews reached the top ten for 20 out of 25 subjects.
